Afer a Hard Freeze (17 Jan. 2009)
About a week later, we  had another hard freeze.
Back to Year in Blooms
Home
This is what was left unscathed after the a hard freeze (more than two hours below 26 degrees F.) in the early morning hours of 17 Jan. 2009).   Most won't be blooming at a given time, but they make the winter garden less drab.  Check out the Edibles page, where winter vegetables (onions, mustard, collards, etc.), herbs (rosemary, garlic chives, and more) and fruits (especially citrus) add color.  Native plants such as southern magnolia, laurel oak, holly, mosses and lichens are good for winter color.   Spring is still two months away.
