Maybe the snake was heading toward this bird's nest, a few feet away. When I went back to check, the snake was gone and the cat was nearby. | ||
The snake was on the back porch the next afternoon. After I photographed him, he made his way down to the floor and hid behind some tools. | ||

24 May 2011 - The cat was pawing at something that jumped and so I checked it out. "Red on black", not "red on yellow," so not a coral snake. Scarlet kingsnake, I would guess.
